Agriculture is both a contributor to and a victim of climate change. Conventional farming practices, with their heavy reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. These practices also degrade soil health, reducing its ability to sequester carbon. In contrast, organic climate farming presents a viable solution to mitigate these impacts. By employing techniques such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting, organic farming enhances soil fertility and biodiversity while reducing emissions. This sustainable approach not only curbs climate change but also makes farms more resilient to its effects, ensuring food security and environmental sustainability.

The EU Project OrganicClimateNET

Recognizing the potential of organic climate farming, the European Union has launched OrganicClimateNET, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at establishing a pilot network of 250 farms across 12 countries. This project seeks to enable farmers to integrate and optimise organic climate farming, facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration among them. OrganicClimateNET aims to create a robust framework to help and promote organic farming practices. The project hopes to accelerate the adoption of organic farming techniques across Europe, fostering a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector.

Innovarum: Driving Communication and Dissemination in OrganicClimateNET

Within the ambitious framework of OrganicClimateNET, Innovarum plays a pivotal role as the Dissemination and Communication (D&C) Leader. Innovarum is responsible for ensuring that the project’s findings and innovations reach a broad audience, including farmers, nAKIS-actors of this project, organic and non-organic actors beyond the network, citizen, policymakers and other EU projects and initiatives.

These efforts are crucial for fostering an inclusive dialogue around organic climate farming and encouraging widespread adoption of its practices. By promoting organic climate farming practices and facilitating knowledge exchange, Innovarum helps pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future in Europe.
